The International Chess Federation (FIDE) have announced that the Women's Candidates Final and Women's World Championship Match will be occurring in Shanghai and Chongqing.

Ju Wenjun will face the winner of the Candidates Final between Lei Tingje and Tan Zhongyi.

Ju won the 2020 Women's World Championship, defeating Alexandra Goryachkina of Russia in Shanghai and Vladivostok, defending her title from 2018.

The Women's Candidate Final is scheduled to take place in Chongqing from March 27 to April 6, as Chongqing Sports Lottery Chess Club team mates Tingjie and Zhongyi will be competing in a best of six tie.

The city of Chongqing values chess highly, with multiple chess clubs and academies located across the area.

The World Championship Match will take place from July 3 to July 25, with the event switching between Chongqing and Shanghai halfway through the 12-game series.
