Norway's Marcus Kleveland earned his second straight gold in the men's snowboard slopestyle, while 16-year-old Mia Brookes became the youngest-ever world champion at the Bakuriani 2023 International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships.

Kleveland secured a score of 87.23 to become the first male slopestyle athlete to win in back-to-back World Championships titles.

"It’s always pretty nerve-wracking just standing there basically having the whole finals dropping in after you," said Kleveland.

"But we ended up on top and I could not be more happy.

"This course is really challenging.

"There’s a lot going on and you’ve got to be really focused when you ride.

"I had to kind of go into my mind on the last one and it all ended really good."

Finishing behind him was Ryoma Kimata of Japan, who scored 83.45 and achieved a silver medal in his first appearance at the World Championships.

Chris Corning of the United States ended up in the final podium spot, as the Utah 2019 world champion scored 82.18 points, while fourth place Mons Roisland of Norway only managed 78.90 points.

The women's event had a historic outcome, as Britain's Brookes became the youngest-ever world champion, while also becoming the first woman to land a 1440.

Brookes scored a grand total of 91.38 points.

"I honestly feel like I’m going to cry," said Brookes.

"I have never been so happy in my life.

"I was at the top of the course and my coach said, 'If you want to win this just try the 1440.'

"I tried the 1260 in practice, I came around and almost went 1440, so I knew it was possible on this jump."

She managed to beat the reigning two-time champion Zoi Sadowski Synnott of New Zealand, who scored 88.78.

Claiming the bronze medal was Japan's Miyabi Onitsuka, who was the Kreischburg 2015 winner, as she accumulated 83.05 points.

The Bakuriani 2023 World Championships will continue tomorrow with the finals of the men's freestyle slopestyle.
