Marciano Norman, head of the National Sports Council (KONI) in Indonesia, claims that his country are capable of reaching the top 30 in the medals table at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Indonesia's four leading sports are badminton, weightlifting, archery and shooting, which Norman expects will propel the country into the top 30.

After ranking in the fifties at Tokyo 2020, the expectations have been increased by Norman, who spoke about the situation at the West Papua KONI Committee in Manokwari, Indonesia.

"If we are in the top 30, we can expect to be in the top 10 in the 2032 Olympics and then in 2044, we can be ranked fifth in the world," the former lieutenant general said.

"So KONI must seriously look for top athletes to coach and lead them to become champions."

The Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON) will be used as practice to prepare the athletes for major events.

"Regions must prepare themselves for the 2024 PON in Aceh and North Sumatra," added Norman.

"The upcoming PON will also be the first to be participated in by 48 provinces in Indonesia."

Indonesia has achieved eight gold medals in its history, which were all won in the badminton event.
