Anthony will join former NBA players Luis Scola of Argentina and Pau Gasol of Spain, who were also announced as Global Ambassadors.

"I've proudly represented the USA on the world's largest stages, and the World Cup is the toughest competition in international basketball," said Anthony.

"It's all about striking a perfect balance of personnel, talent and having that great chemistry.

"I'm looking forward to supporting all the players at the World Cup this year and celebrating the sport on a global scale."

Anthony only competed in one FIBA World Cup, where he helped the United States secure a third-place finish at Japan 2006, being named in the all-tournament team and leading the team in scoring with 19.9 points a game.

He managed to win gold at the FIBA AmeriCup, where he averaged a team-leading 21.2 points, guiding them past Argentina in the final.

However, Anthony played a bigger role in his country's success at the Olympics. 

He played in four tournaments, winning three golds consecutively in 2008, 2012 and 2016, with one bronze in 2004.

The 39-year-old is also the leader in Olympic matches played for the basketball team, and was the all-time leading scorer with 336 points until Kevin Durant broke his record at Tokyo 2020.

Durant now has 432 points.

Anthony is currently a free agent, with his latest appearance being last year in the 2021-2022 season for the Los Angeles Lakers, where he averaged 13.3 points.

Anthony attended the Philippines against Lebanon World Cup qualifier on February 24, with the tournament set to be held from August 25 to September 10.
