Germany’s Julia Taubitz won the 20th International Luge Federation (FIL) Luge World Cup title of her career after claiming the women’s singles crown on home ice in Winterberg.

Victory at the Veltins Eis Arena was the third in a row for Taubitz, who managed the fastest time in run one with 55.634sec.

She then registered the second fastest time on run two of 56.049, as she finished with a total time of 1min 51.683sec.

Second place went to her compatriot and world champion Anna Berreiter, who posted the fastest time of run two of 56.020, on her way to finishing in 1:51.891.

The podium was completed by Emily Sweeney of the United States, who managed 1:52.038 across her two runs.  

The final races of the Sprint World Cup season also took place at the same venue today, with the host nation enjoying more success.

In the men’s singles sprint Max Langenhan of Germany followed up his win in the men’s singles competition yesterday, by triumphing in 36.161sec.

In an identical podium from the men’s singles the previous day Jonas Mueller of Austria was second in 36.221, with Germany’s Felix Loch third in 36.249.

Despite only finishing sixth today Dominik Fischnaller of Italy won the small crystal globe for securing the overall Sprint World Cup title with 220 points, finishing 15 in front of Austria’s David Gleirscher.

In the women’s singles sprint Taubitz followed up her earlier women’s singles win with victory in 38.989sec.

Second place went to Kendija Aparjode of Latvia in 39.110, with Merle Fraebel of Germany just behind her in third place in 39.111.

Taubitz won the overall women’s singles sprint World Cup crown with 270 points, finishing clear of teammate Dajana Eitberger with 191 points.

In the women’s doubles sprint victory went to Latvian duo Anda Upite and Sanija Ozolina took the title in 31.483.

Italian pairings completed the podium with Andrea Voetter and Marion Oberhofer in second in 31.514, before Nadia Falkensteiner and Annalenha Huber completed the podium in 31.561.

The overall women’s doubles World Cup sprint title was shared by Selina Egle and Lara Kipp of Austria, and Italian duo Andrea Votter and Marion Oberhofer, who both ended on 255 points, the first tie in an overall World Cup in the FIL’s 65-year history.

Finally in the men’s doubles sprint victory went to the winners of yesterday’s men’s sprint crown - Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt, who took the title in 30.798.

Compatriots Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken again followed them in second place in 30.801, before the podium was completed by Juri Thomas Gatt and Riccardo Martin Schoepf in 30.832.

The overall World Cup crown went to Wendl and Arlt with 234 points, as they ended nine clear of Benecken and Eggert, who finished with 225.
