Germany’s Max Langenhan won the men’s singles title on home ice on the first day of the latest International Luge Federation Luge World Cup in Winterberg.

Langenhan set the fastest times on both runs as he recorded his third Luge World Cup win in a row.

After clocking 52.896sec on run one, he followed it up with 52.791 on run two, finishing with a total time of 1min 45.687sec.

World champion Jonas Mueller of Austria finished in second in 1:45.987, 0.300sec behind Langenhan.

The podium was completed by fellow German Felix Loch, with the sprint world champion overcoming health problems to finish in 1:46.009.

The overall World Cup leader in the discipline remains Austria’s Dominik Fischnaller, who finished fourth today in 1:46.019.

Germany also claimed a one-two in the men’s doubles competition, with victory going to Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt.

Wendl and Arlt posted the fastest times in both runs - 43.617 on run one, followed by 43.524 on run two, as they finished in 1:27.141.

Second place went to their compatriots Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken in 1:27.571, with the bronze medals going to Latvian duo Martins Bots and Roberts Plume in 1:27.641.

In the women’s doubles, German duo Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal took the title in 1:28.288, completing a sweep of the titles on offer for the hosts on the opening day.

Degenhardt and Rosenthal posted the fastest times on both runs - 44.108 on run one and 44.180 on run two, on their way to victory.

Austrians Selina Egle and Lara Michaela Kipp finished second in 1:28.508, with the podium completed by Andrea Voetter and Marion Oberhofer of Italy in 1:28.534.

Action is scheduled to continue tomorrow with the women’s singles, men’s and women’s sprint singles and men’s and women’s sprint doubles.
