Jessica O'Connor got her side off to an ideal start against Belgium with a second-minute goal from a penalty corner before her compatriot Tegan Fourie doubled the lead early in the next quarter.

France De Mot pulled one back for the Belgians after the half hour mark but it was not enough to inspire a comeback.

They are set to face The Netherlands who demolished Canada 6-1.

South Africa's men were trounced 6-3 by the Dutch who scored four in the second period.

A four-minute triple salvo did little but make the scoreline slightly more respectable for the hosts.

They will meet the United States who survived a late Namibian revival to clinch a 3-2 victory.

"It's huge for us," said US captain Pat Harris.

"This is the first time the US has even got out of the pool stages and the semi-finals is the biggest success we've had with the men's team so this is tremendous.

"For us it was another tough game.

"Namibia defended really well.

"They stood deep and we had to be really patient to find the openings.

"I'm glad we did and got the lead and then kept building our game."

Like the women, Belgium's men also fell to a narrow defeat as they lost a shoot-out 6-5 to Iran following a 5-5 thriller in regulation time.

Iran will face Austria in the next round as the latter beat Argentina 2-0.

Austria's women beat Ukraine 3-1 to set up a tie against the Czech Republic who were 6-0 winners over Australia.

All of the semi-final fixtures are due to take place tomorrow in addition to the third place playoffs in both tournaments.
