France's Axelle Gachet Mollaret and Remi Bonnet of Switzerland have taken the vertical race titles at the Ski Mountaineering World Cup stop in Morgins.

Bonnet secured the home triumph with a time of just 18min 27sec in the Dents du Midi region.

He was followed across the line by Belgian Maximilien Drion du Chapois with 19:22 on the clock.

Drion du Chapois denied a Swiss podium sweep as Werner Marti and Aurelien Gay finished fourth and fifth after respective times of 19:45 and 19:56.

Gachet Mollaret bagged the women's title by a comfortable 14-second margin over Austrian Sarah Dreier, finishing the race after 23:24.

Italy's Giulia Murada pocketed the bronze medal with a time of 23:50 to fend off a strong challenge from Frenchwoman Emily Harrop in fourth.

Harrop prevailed the day before in the women's sprint.

She managed to cross the line after 3:35, which denied Murada again as the Italian settled for silver seven seconds later.

Marianne Jagercikova of Slovakia then rounded out the top three in 3:44.

In the men's sprint race, Spaniard Oriol Cardona Coll benefitted from Arno Lietha being penalised.

The Swiss finished in 2:52 but ended up in the silver medal-position after suffering a 10-second penalty as Cardona Coll ascended to first with a time of 2:59.

France's Thibault Anselmet then made up the podium after 3:02.

Competition is set to conclude on Friday (February 10) with the men's and women's individual races.
