A two-day training course was held for referees on the eve of Hong Kong’s national sambo championship.

Officials were trained under the guidance of International Sambo Federation-certified referee Jeremia Fung.

A total of six referees attended the seminar, which ran on Thursday (January 26) and Friday (January 27) before the national championship got underway yesterday.

A lot of time was devoted to the theoretical part and the discussion of difficult moments before participants were asked to prove themselves in practice.

After training, the referees passed the exam and received a refereeing category corresponding to their results.

Suresh Gopi, first vice-president and general director of the Sambo Union of Asia and Oceania, added: "Successful passing of the exam will allow specialists to immediately consolidate their skills at the national sambo championship."
