Indian mixed martial arts (MMA) athlete Sumit Bhyan has claimed that competing at Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA) events "brought out the best in me".

Bhyan was one of four gold medallists at the GAMMA Asian-Pacific Championships in Pattaya last year selected to be given a place on a card for a ONE Lumpinee event at Bangkok's iconic Lumpinee Stadium.

This formed part of a deal struck between GAMMA and professional combat sports promotion ONE Championship for the best man and woman in both the MMA and striking MMA disciplines at the Asian-Pacific Championships to take part in a ONE Lumpinee event.

Lebanon's Sandra Succar, Kyrgyzstan's Farida Abdueva and Kazakhstan's Almaz Sarsembekov were the other winners.

Bhyan said he was "overwhelmed with joy and happiness" when he was selected, and credited the quality of GAMMA events.

"GAMMA competitions have brought out the best in me as I have got the opportunity to compete with the top athletes in the world," he said.

"The level of competition is very tough and as an athlete you need to compete with the best, to be the best.

"I have had the opportunity to compete in two World Championships and two Continental Championships with GAMMA.

"The competitions definitely shape us to be better athletes and the professionalism is outstanding which makes it an organisation that definitely develops athletes into world class talent."

Abdueva concurred that she had not "experienced such high levels of organisation anywhere else", and described competing at a ONE Championship event as a "dream".

Succar claimed that competing at a ONE Lumpinee event would be "the ticket to fame".

Sarsembekov has targeted becoming the first dual ONE champion in muay thai and MMA.

The agreement for the fourth athletes to compete at a ONE Lumpinee event build on an existing strategic partnership between GAMMA and ONE Championship.

Bhyan, Abdueva, Succar and Sarsembekov are set to make their ONE Lumpinee debuts this year, with a date yet to be announced.
