The Swiss claimed her first Olympic gold medal on the "Rock" course at Yanqing National Alpine Ski Centre ski resort in Yanqing District at Beijing 2022.

Gut-Behrami confirmed her position as the favourite, having won the gold medal at the World Championship the previous year, by beating Austria's Mirjam Puchner and Swiss team-mate Michelle Gisin of Switzerland won bronze.

It ended a frustrating wait for an Olympic title.

Gut-Behrami missed Vancouver 2010 after injuring her hip in a training accident.

Her Olympic bow eventually came at Sochi 2014 with bronze in the women’s downhill.

She missed out on a medal in the super-G at Pyeongchang 2018 2018, but followed up bronze in the giant slalom.

Gut-Behrami, though, is doubtful she will extend her career long enough to defend her title at Milan Cortina 2026 when the women's ski events are due to take place in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

When the International Ski Federation World Championships were held on the same course last year, Gut-Behrami won gold medals in the super G and giant slalom and bronze in the downhill. 

She will be almost 35 by the time of Milan Cortina 2026. 

"I can see it's not getting any easier, I can feel my age a little,I don't think I'll continue until 2026," Gut Behrami told Swiss newspaper Blick.

Gut-Behrami made her FIS World Cup debut as a 16-year-old.

She has won a total of eight FIS World Championships medals - two gold, three silver and three bronze.

Gut-Behrami has finished on the podium at FIS World Cup events 66 times, including 35 on the top step.

Her most recent victory came in the giant slalom at American resort Killington, her first in the discipline for six-years.

But injuries are beginning to take its toll, Gut-Behramiadmitted. 

"I can see it's not getting any easier," Gut-Behrami told Blick.

"I need a lot more physical therapy than I used to,” 

"I have trouble driving, 

"I always get backache, 

"I never had that before."

Even though she is feeling the physcial strain, Gut-Behrami is currently third in the FIS World Cup standings for giant slalom.

She is seventh in the overall FIS rankings led by Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States, the only female skier active on the circuit with more World Cup victories than Gut-Behrami.

She married the football player Valon Behrami, capped 83 times by Switzerland, including four consecutive FIFA World Cups, in July 2018. 

From the 2019 season she has competed using the double-barrelled name Gut-Behrami.
