The Norwegians claimed first and second spot in the mixed 4x5 kilometres classic relay while Sweden claimed the bronze medal.

But there was a twist as the second team from the country featuring Lotta Udnes Weng, Mikael Gunnulfsen, Silje Theodorsen and Simen Hegstad Krüger claimed the top prize.

They claimed gold with a timing of 54:04min, with Gunnulfsen and Theodorsen getting their first World Cup podiums and a first win for Weng.

"It was amazing," Gunnulfsen said.

"We fooled everyone."

"Everyone thought Norway I was the best team today but we fooled everyone and sent the second best team over the finish line first."

The first team comprising of  Olympic medallists Emil Iversen and Heidi Weng along with Anne Kjersti Kalvå and Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget settled for silver in 54:09.5.

Sweden’s Maja Dahlqvist, William Poromaa, Frida Karlsson and Calle Halfvarsson crossed the line in 54:10.5 for the bronze medal.

This was Beijing 2022 bronze medallist Karlsson’s second medal at the event, after having finished third in the distance race yesterday.

The next World Cup event is scheduled for December 17 and 18 in Davos, Switzerland.
