Pan American Games archery medallists Paige Pearce and Marcus D'Almeida warmed up for Santiago 2023 by winning continental titles at what was in effect a dress rehearsal.

Pearce won one of three American gold medals at the Pan American Archery Championships, triumphing in the women's compound in the Chilean capital.

The event was held at the Bernardo O'Higgins National Military Academy, which is not due to be the archery venue come next year's Pan American Games, but Santiago 2023 officials were on hand to witness it.

Pearce was a compound bronze medallist at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

Nick Kappers won the men's compound event in Santiago for the United States' other solo continental title.

Brazil's D'Almeida retained his men's recurve title, while 22-year-old Mexican Ana Vazquez won the women's equivalent.

Vazquez also helped Mexico win the women's team recurve competition - one of five team gold medals won by the country.

While Mexico finished the Pan American Archery Championships with six gold medals, the US led the way in the Para Pan American Archery Championships with four.

Parque Peñalolén is the venue for archery at next year Pan American Games and Parapan American Games.

Chile has never held the multi-sport events before.

Dates of October 20 to November 5 and November 17 to November 26 have been set.
