Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Jade Carey was joined by Olympic silver medallist Jordan Chiles, world runner-up Leanne Wong, Shilese Jones, Lexi Zeiss, and Skye Blakely - leading the country to the historic win.

The quintet amassed 166.564 points to sit atop the podium ahead of host nation Britain on 163.363.

Canada secured their first-ever team medal at the Championships after winning bronze with 160.563 as 27-year-old Ellie Black pulled off a crucial beam routine to ensure the team's top-three status.

The three podium finishers have confirmed their places at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games following the results.

The absence of quadruple Rio de Janeiro 2016 gold medallist Simone Biles and Olympic all-around champion Sunisa Lee produced questions over whether the US' less experienced line-up could continue the legacy.

"It honestly feels amazing," said Chiles.

"It's been a very long journey.

"Even getting to this point, this is my fourth time trying to even get to a World Championships and coming back with a gold medal is definitely an ambition. 

"I'm really excited and I couldn't be more proud of myself."

Chiles got off to a shaky start as she fell on the beam which left her in tears but she recovered to produced a score of 14.400 on the vault before holding her nerve at the second time of asking on the beam for 13.333 points.

Carey and Jones' performances also stood out across all four disciplines.

Carey produced a 14.800 on the vault before ending any doubts around the US' challenge for gold with a 14.100 on floor, the apparatus in which she won Olympic gold last year.

"We're all capable of doing big things and more," said Jones.

"This is the beginning of everybody's comeback career.

"Just wait and see. 

"I'm super proud and I know we'll be able to hit something big in 2024."
