The International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) has released a new version of its E-Laser Run mobile game, available to download through Google Play and Apple's App Store.

This is a virtual take on the laser-run, which incorporates two of modern pentathlon's five disciplines in running and shooting and marks the conclusion of Olympic competitions.

E-Laser Run is the UIPM's first esports product, and the global governing body said that the second version features changes "based on feedback gathered from the gaming community" and "general game play enhancement".

It features a race including two rounds of laser shooting, in both of which athletes must hit a target five times before progressing on their run.

The multi-player game can be downloaded on mobile or tablet devices through Google Play and the App Store.

According to the App Store description, it is aimed at "athletes of all ages from 8 to 80" in cities and in the countryside.

The UIPM has also promised that further versions of the E-Laser Run will be released in due course.

E-Laser Run initially launched in March of this year.

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UIPM launched a laser home run for more than 600 competitors as virtual sport grew in prominence.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) last year voted to push for closer ties with virtual sport through the creation of the Olympic Virtual Series, although President Thomas Bach has insisted that games where "violence is glorified or accepted" will not be welcome.

The IOC's Esports and Gaming Liaison Group is chaired by David Lappartient, President of the International Cycling Union.
