Olympic champion Garnbret arrived at her home IFSC World Cup, being held at the Plus Climbing Koper Centre, having won all four women's lead events on this season's circuit and won three gold medals at the Munich 2022 European Championships.

However, she faced a stern challenge from 18-year-old Mori, competing on the World Cup for the first time this year.

Mori topped the scoring in qualification with 1.41 to the 1.87 from Garnbret.

Garnbret was the only climber who reached the top in the semi-final, but Mori performed well too as she passed the 45^th hold.

It was the Japanese climber who prevailed in the final, passing the 30^th hold while Garnbret passed the 27^th hold.

The United States' Brooke Raboutou took third after passing the 23^rd hold.

Garnbret continues to hold a healthy lead overall with 4,805 points, followed by South Korea's world champion Seo Chae-hyun on 3,405 after she finished fourth in Koper.

Raboutou is third for the season on 3,250.

There was a Slovenian winner in the men's event, with Luka Potočar edging out Switzerland's Sascha Lehmann to take gold.

Both climbers passed the 30^th hold, but Potočar triumphed having climbed higher in the semi-final.

Germany's Yannick Flohé took third after passing the 29^th hold.

World Cup leader Taisei Homma ranked sixth in Koper, passing the 25^th hold.

He moved onto 3,485 points for the season, followed by Potočar on 2,925 and Flohé on 2,910.

Edinburgh is due to stage the next leg of the IFSC World Cup from Friday (September 9) until next Sunday (September 11), featuring lead and speed competition.
