Double world champion Carlos Yulo of the Philippines has taken the lead in the men's all-around competition at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Doha while China's Wei Xiaoyuan holds a slender advantage in the women's division.

The 20-year-old Yulo started off in style as he scored a leading 14.800 in the floor exercise before slipping to a disappointing 12.933 on the pommel horse and recovering on the rings for 14.100 points at the Aspire Academy Dome in Qatar.

His performances on the first three of six apparatus saw him finish the day with 41.833 points, ahead of Chinese pair Yin Dehang and Yang Jiaxing on 41.800 and 41.700 points, respectively.

Yulo also topped the men's individual floor exercise qualification round with 14.800 points while Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Lee Chih-Kai of Chinese Taipei's 15.100 sees him in pole position in the pommel horse discipline and Lan Xingyu of China leads the rings with 14.900 points.

Meanwhile, China hold a slender lead in the men's team competition with 126.000 points while Chinese Taipei and Japan are in second and third with 124.900 and 123.533 points, respectively.

Wei, who is leading the women's individual uneven bars on 15.000 points, amassed 28.000 points to gain the lead in the women's all-around event.

Scoring 13.000 points on the vault and 15.000 on the uneven bars, Wei is ahead of compatriots Tang Xijing on 27.533 and Zhang Jin with 27.500 points.

South Korean Yeo Seo-jeong notched up 13.950 points to set the best score in the women's individual vault contest.

China's 83.433 points sees them lead the way in the women's team event with South Korea and Japan chasing behind with 80.167 and 79.833 points, respectively.

The competition is set to continue tomorrow with the men's and women's all-around champions due to be crowned.
