A new Youth Continental Cup series has been created for luge athletes and will offer a qualification path for the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games.

The International Luge Federation (FIL) series will be contested across Europe, North America and Asia, beginning in the forthcoming 2022-2023 season.

Youth A class athletes, mainly candidates for the next Youth Olympics aged between 15 and 18, will be able to compete.

Qualification points for the Gangwon 2024 Youth Olympics will be on offer at Youth Continental Cup contests.

Events are planned to be held in Park City in the United States and Sigulda in Latvia from November 28 to December 3.

A second round of the competition is set for Whistler in Canada, Austrian venue Bludenz and Pyeongchang in South Korea between December 12 and 17.

Another Continental Cup round will then be staged from January 17 to 23 in 2023, in Whistler, Beijing 2022 venue Yanqing and Winterberg in Germany.

Junior luge riders - those under the age of 21 - will have six Junior World Cups in the coming winter season.

They will also be able to compete in the 38th FIL Junior World Championships, scheduled to take place from January 10 to 15 2023 in Bludenz.

The FIL has separated youth and junior events into two distinct international series "due to the large number of participants".

The 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games are due to be held from January 19 to February 2 that year.

Several Pyeongchang 2018 venues are due to be used, with the competition open to athletes aged 15 to 18.
