Kirlan Le Bihan led a stunning French podium sweep at the World Triathlon Multisport Championships elite men's duathlon race while Joselyn Daniely Brea Abreu of Venezuela secured her second women's title in Târgu Mureș.

Le Bihan soared to gold in 1hr 40min 32sec on a brilliant afternoon of racing at the Transylvania Moto Ring in Romania.

The 2019 world champion Benjamin Choquert made up 90 seconds over the final 5 kilometres after falling behind on the cycling leg but ultimately ran out of course before being able to really pressure the leader, crossing the line after 1:40:51.

Maxime Hueber-Moosbrugger made up the top three with 1:41:10 on the clock to pip Belgium's Thibaut De Smet to bronze by 16 seconds.

"It’s incredible, I went out in front on the bike and it was really hard, so I was thinking the run would be really hard as I was coming out of transition," said Le Bihan.

"Choquert ran very fast so I had to be careful, it was a good battle to get the title.

"Last year was a really hard race in the under-23 championships, but this year my preparation was good and I’ve been hoping for this title for a long time.

"To have three medals for France is fantastic."

Brea Abreu took victory in the women's event by the skin of her teeth after a thrilling sprint to the line with Germany's Céline Kaiser and Ai Ueda of Japan.

The Venezuelan finished after 1:54:30, just seconds ahead of Kaiser and Ueda who missed out on gold after 1:54:32 and 1:54:35, respectively.
