Switzerland also fended South Korea through a 9-3 victory.

The United States doubled their win tally after they edged Sweden 9-8 and shrugged off Italy 11-6.

The Italians did have some joy, inflicting a 12-2 loss upon New Zealand.

In the women’s competition, the US are the first team to qualify for the semi-finals after beating Canada 11-5.

The Americans commanded a 7-2 lead entering the seventh end before the Canadians dragged themselves back into the encounter with three points in the next two ends.

However, the US secured the victory with an enthralling 4-0 in the penultimate end.

They now pose a record of six wins and one loss.

Japan have remained in good form, beating Norway 10-5 to level their opponents with a record of five wins and two losses.

Latvia have matched this record by winning 9-5 versus Sweden.

Denmark upset Switzerland 6-5 to claim their first victory of the tournament and South Korea edged Scotland 9-8.

The final round robin matches for men and women are set to be played tomorrow with the semi-finals planned to be held on Saturday (May 21) and the finals on Sunday (May 22).
