Monterrey is due to become the first Mexican venue to stage a World Para Athletics Grand Prix later this year.

Monterrey has been confirmed as the sixth Grand Prix host of the season, and first in the Americas.

Children Heroes High Performance Centre is the proposed venue in Monterrey, with competition scheduled from July 21 to 23.

A World Para Athletics Grand Prix has not been held in the Americas since May 2019, when Arizona in the United States was the destination.

There has never before been a World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Mexico.

Athletics was among Mexico's most fruitful sports at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

The nation won eight medals in track and field, including respective golds for Mónica Olivia Rodríguez Saavedra in the women's T11 1500 metres and José Rodolfo Chessani García in the men's T38 400m.

Dubai in the United Arab Emirates staged the first Grand Prix of the season last month.

Italy, France - in Paris, host of the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships and 2024 Paralympics - Tunisia and Morocco are also due to stage Grands Prix, with more legs planned.
