The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Executive Board has appointed Pedro Figueiredo the organisation's new media officer.

Figueiredo will be responsible for media relations, as well as the management and development of the IBSA brand.

Figueiredo has a communication sciences degree and 25 years of experience in sports journalism, having been a special correspondent at multiple different major tournaments.

"We want to focus on a new path in the way we communicate," said IBSA executive President Sandro di Girolamo, who assumed the office in October.

"Not only on an institutional level, but also in terms of how the public perceives sports and their environments.

"We want closer relations with our members, reminding them that national federations have an important role in our ambition: constant information about our work and using all platforms at our disposal.

"Together, we can take all our sports to a global media stage.

"As far as communication is concerned, I believe Mr Pedro Figueiredo will be the right professional to help us achieve our goals."

Figueiredo is currently media advisor to the Board at the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth in Lisbon.

Previously he has collaborated with the European Goalball Clubs Association on several projects, such as the podcast Quiet, Please with Vilma Venckutonyte, and has moderated three panels at the International Goalball Convention.

In addition to his media work, Figueiredo is also an IBSA goalball referee.

The IBSA claims that the appointment will help it to set a new pattern for inclusive communication within the blind sports family.
