The women’s épée last 64 line-up was confirmed as competition continued at the International Fencing Federation Budapest Grand Prix.

Men’s qualification had taken the focus yesterday at the BOK Hall, with the women’s event starting today.

United States’ Margherita Guzzi earned her place in the last 64 after securing back-to-back wins in qualification.

Guzzi overcame Germany’s Gala Hess Sancho 15-10, before securing a 15-7 victory over her fellow American Catherine Nixon by a 15-7 margin.

The results saw Guzzi set up a last-64 encounter with fourth seed Vivian Kong of Hong Kong.

Kong made the quarter-finals of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the discipline and will be expecting to make the latter stages in Budapest.

Olympic bronze medallist Katrina Lehis is the top seeded fencer at the event.

The Estonian is set to begin her campaign tomorrow when she faces Cyprus’ Irina Mavrikiou.

Second seed Choi In-jeong of South Korea will face Italy’s Beatrice Cagnin in her first match on the other half of the draw.

South Korea’s Song Se-ra, the tournament third seed, opens with a match against Hungary’s Tamara Gnam.

Both the men’s and women’s competitions will conclude tomorrow, with the event held from the last 64 to the finals.
