USA Taekwondo has partnered with TeachAids to carry out concussion education known as CrashCourse.

The organisation has followed 22 other governing bodies in the United States which have joined forces with TeachAids, which promotes health education around the world.

CrashCourse was first launched in 2018 after two years of research, six months of production and thousands of hours of user-testing.

It includes videos and virtual reality which can be accessed by athletes, coaches and parents, so they can learn the latest medical knowledge on how to prevent and treat concussions.

Concussion prevention is a big issue in taekwondo, a sport which involves frequent kicks to the head.

"We take the health and safety of our athletes as our first priority," said USA Taekwondo's senior director of high performance, Mary Spence.

"As an athlete or a coach in a high contact sport, it is critical all are trained to recognise a concussion and understand the importance of dealing with such immediately.

"The CrashCourse curriculum provides a great resource for further enabling us to provide state of the art concussion training."

Paul Green, USA Taekwondo's coaching director, added: "CrashCourse provides an attractive and compelling way to improve the understanding of concussions.

"The more our athletes and coaches know about these injuries, the better off our sport will be.

"This is an important partnership."

The US won an Olympic gold medal at Tokyo 2020 thanks to Anastasija Zolotic's success in the women's under-57 kilograms division.

"We are thrilled to be joining with the exceptional leadership at USA Taekwondo to provide CrashCourse concussion education to their athletes and coaches," said Dr. Piya Sorcar, the founder and chief executive of TeachAids.

"Concussions are a challenge facing so much of the sports world.

"Together, we are committed to making sport safer through evidence-based education."
