The Lebanese Taekwondo Federation (LTF) has welcomed the Lebanese-Armenian sports club Homenetmen Club to its membership, with a delegation visiting the team in Beirut.

LTF President Habib Zarifa visited the Agbalyan Sports Center to train with athletes, and was welcomed by Committee member Harrier Saturian and coach Hambek Sousani.

He held a meeting with the club members at the complex, with discussions focusing on the Beirut chapter's inclusion as a member of the LTF and the rules of the sport.

In return, Zarifa expressed his pleasure for joining the club, stating he admired the size of the team and how many young athletes had taken up taekwondo, before wishing them good luck.

There are 10 chapters of Homenetmen Lebanon in the country, mostly in areas with sizable Armenian populations including Bourj Hammoud, Anjar and the capital city Beirut.

Approximately four per cent of the country's population is Armenian, an estimated 156,000 people according to Minority Rights Group International.

The population of Armenians in Lebanon grew following the Armenian Genocide in the 1910s, with surviving deportees settling in the country.

Homenetmen was founded in November 1918 and has become a Pan-Armenian sports organisation around the world, with chapters existing in countries such as Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Sweden and the United States.
