Foil competition filled the programme on day two of the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) Wheelchair Fencing World Cup in Warsaw, with Russia winning three titles and Ukraine two.

Ukraine’s Natalia Morkvych won the foil women’s individual A title after a closely contested final with Russia’s Alena Evdokimova which she won 15-14.

Bronze medallists were Russia’s Iuliia Maya, beaten 15-0 by Morkvych, and Ukraine’s Nataliia Mandryk, who lost her semi-final 15-4 to Evdokimova.

In the foil women’s S individual B category an all-Russian final saw world number two Irina Mishurova beat Victoria Boykova 15-10.

Mishurova had advanced with a 15-10 win over another Russian, world number three Liudmila Vasileva, while Boykova had earned a 15-6 win over Irma Khetsuriani, one of Georgia’s women’s gold medallists in the recently concluded IWAS Team Sabre World Championships at the same venue.

Russia’s Roman Fedyaev earned a 15-7 win over Ukraine’s Andrii Demchuk to win gold in the foil men’s S individual A class.

Fedyaev had beaten fellow countryman Oleg Gavrilenkov 15-5 in the semi-final, while in the other last four match Demchuk had earned a 15-13 win over France’s Damien Tokatlian.

There was another Russian gold in the foil men’s S individual B category, where Albert Kamalov won his final against Ukraine’s Anton Datsko.

Datsko had beaten Russia’s Timur Khamatshin 15-8, while the other all-Russian final saw Albert Kamalov earn a 15-4 win over Patryk Banach of Poland.

Serhii Shavkun earned Ukraine gold in the foil men’s S individual B class, beating Russia’s Aleksandr Kuritskii 15-3, having beaten Israel’s Kanstantin Kavaliou 15-2 in the semi-final.

The World Cup is scheduled to conclude on Sunday (July 11) and tomorrow is set to feature competition in the men’s epee and women’s sabre categories.
