The Boccia International Sports Federation (BISFed) has released guidelines for a return to play in boccia competitions, developing a COVID-19 preventative protocol for host Organising Committees, teams and officials.

These guidelines are in line with recommendations from the World Health Organization.

The protocol tries to cover all locations participants will attend and BISFed will review this document periodically and update it according to how the COVID-19 pandemic evolves.

It should be read in line with local, national and international recommendations already outlined by the country or region.

Among recommendations, each Organising Committee should ensure staff members, technical officials, volunteers and participants are all provided with information on COVID-19 and how it spreads as well as individual protection equipment.

They will also inform staff members and volunteers they should immediately inform the organisers and remove themselves from the competitions if they show any signs of COVID-19.

All spaces will be regularly disinfected, there will be one-way routes to avoid personnel crossing paths and each delegation will be given resting areas separate from each other.

All officials and athletes are required to provide a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours prior to arrival at the event, while only registered personnel can attend events.

Each participant and volunteer will be required to sign a waiver stating they are participating voluntarily at their own risk.

Social distancing, wearing masks and hand washing are among preventative measures also in place.

Competition venues and hotels must also have an isolation area for anyone displaying symptoms of COVID-19.

Air circulation will be ensured regularly too, particularly at the beginning and end of the day.
