Just north of Lucerne, Sursee is set to host both men's and women's events from December 11 to 21.

With the Universiade less than nine months away, Häfliger admits there is still a lot of work to do.

"We must plan every day of the tournament to the last detail: official meetings, travel, training, matches, etc.

"At a later stage, we'll have to plan the volunteers' schedules and the infrastructure in and around the ice rink," said Häfliger.

Sursee's Organising Committee is still searching for a venue manager, with Häfliger calling the position "extremely important" for future planning.

Earlier this month, Lucerne 2021 confirmed the men's and women's teams for the competition.

Russia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, South Korea, Slovakia, Switzerland and the United States will compete in the 10-team men's tournament.

Canada, Japan, China, Russia, Switzerland and the US will compete in the six-team women's contest.

"I am looking forward to the theory being put into practice in December 2021 after a long and extended preparation phase," added Häfliger.

Eishalle Sursee, the ice rink which was built in 1999, will host the preliminary rounds of the competition.

The semi-finals and finals are scheduled to take place on December 19 and 20 at the Bossard Arena in Zug, north-east of Lucerne.
