Sevastianova suffered life threatening injuries in a dress rehearsal for the Lausanne 2020 Opening Ceremony on January 7 2020.

As she was elevated by a metal ring system, connected by a cable to a motor fixed to the ceiling of the Vaudoise Aréna, the 36-year-old fell from a height of five metres onto the ice. 

She was immediately taken to Lausanne University Hospital by ambulance after seriously damaging her liver, ribs and left hand. 

The blood pressure in her skull was found to be very high and she was placed in a medically induced coma following the incident.

A criminal investigation was subsequently opened by the public prosecutor to determine the "reasons, the circumstances and possible responsibilities in this accident".

Sevastianova's lawyer, Elza Reymond, confirmed to insidethegames that the criminal investigation is ongoing. 

An audit report by an independent expert, published in July, had found that the winch installation carrying Sevastianova had been "poorly installed".

This did not determine who was to blame for the accident, however, with that outcome set to be determined by the criminal investigation. 

In addition, complications have arisen over the nature of Sevastianova's contract with Art on Ice AG.

The events company claimed her contract "stipulated that the artist was responsible for her own accident insurance".

Sevastianova is recovering in Saint Petersburg in Russia and revealed she is able to walk without a stick and can use her injured hand to cook and draw. 

"The result of injuries certainly have incapacitated me, but I am happy to be at home with my family," she said. 

A GoFundMe page, set up by Sevastianova's friend Natalia Vulf at the time of the accident, has raised €78,100 (£68,500/$94,600) to aid the skater's recovery. 

In total, 944 people have donated to the fundraiser, titled "Help Olga Get Her Life Back".
