The International Committee for the Francophone Games (CIJF) paid a visit to the host city of the 2022 Francophone Games, Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to inspect progress of the preparations.

Carrying out a mission over nearly two weeks, CIJF director Mmadame Zeina Mina visited the nation's capital as it continues to organise for the ninth edition of the Games, a multi-sport event contested by French speaking countries.

She was accompanied by sport expert and member of the CIJF Steering Committee Léopold Germain Senghor, FIFA technical delegate Sory Diabaté, CIJF sport expert Ralph Mouchbahani, CIJF architect Joseph Amon and Remi Sagna, CIJF culture expert.

Several experts were also involved in discussions via video conference.

Working meetings took place daily between the CIJF and the Organising Committee, with the CIJF delegation being able to visit various infrastructure for the Games during their visit.

They inspected the Francophone Games Village, sports and cultural venues, as well as the international media centre.

Near the end of her visit, Zeina Mina also met with the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, who reaffirmed his commitment to hosting the Games and taking all measures to ensure the event would be a success.

The visit allowed amendments to the Games to be signed before the launch of the calls for tenders.

A seminar was also recently held to receive feedback on the future of the Francophone Games, with a report on the CIJF's findings expected soon.

The 2022 Francophone Games were set to take place in 2021, but due to the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, it was also pushed back a year to avoid any clash with the Olympic Games.

Kinshasa was not the initial host city for the Francophone Games, taking up hosting responsibilities following the withdrawal of the Moncton-Dieppe Organising Committee in New Brunswick in Canada.

The New Brunswick's Government had said that they would not host the Games with estimated costs consistently rising since they were awarded hosting rights in 2016.

The 2022 Francophone Games are currently scheduled to take place from August 19 to 28 2022.
