Cui Zhe_14-10-11October 15 - China's Cui Zhe broke a world record as she took the first powerlifting gold medal of the Eighth China National Games for the disabled in Hangzhou.

The Beijing Paralympics silver medalist, who suffers from dysphoria - an anxious emotion due to physical state - broke the record to lift 106.5kg after three successful lifts, but she was only just allowed to compete, as drastic action had to be taken to ensure that she was not too heavy to compete after weighing in at 0.3kg overweight before the contest.

The Asian Para Games champion even cut her hair to meet the stringent weight requirements.

Her coach, Li Weipu, praised her afterwards, and added: "Her smile is sweet and beautiful.

"So if she's nervous, I always make her smile to me before the contest, and give her the greatest applause that I can express."

Silver went to Guangdong's Chen Meijiao, and Guo Lingling of Hebei took bronze.

The competition is taking place in Hangzhou, Jiaxing and Shaoxing, as well as other neighbouring cities.

Eighteen sports feature in total with chess, darts and blind table tennis on the list for the first time.
