His run to the gold medal match included a 15-2 quarter-final win over Ukraine’s Maksym Mahula, before beating Germany’s Maurice Schmidt 15-5.

Gilliver rounded off a superb series of performances by beating Russia’s Maxim Shaburov 15-9 in the final.

Bronze medals were awarded to Schmidt and Russia’s Artur Yusupov, after they were beaten in the semi-finals.

Poland’s Adrian Castro secured gold in the men’s sabre category B event.

Castro clinched a 15-11 victory over Greece’s Panagiotis Triantafyllou in the final.

Russia’s Alexander Kurzin took the first bronze medal after losing 15-13 to Triantafyllou in the semi-finals, while Hungary’s Istvan Tarjanyi won the second having fallen 15-5 against Castro.

There was a surprise result in the women’s foil category B event, with reigning world and Paralympic champion Beatrice Vio failing to reach the final.

The Italian star was beaten 15-13 by Thailand’s Jana Saysunee in the semi-finals.

Jana went on to beat Russia’s Viktoria Boykova 15-7 in the gold medal match.

Bronze medals were awarded to beaten semi-finalists Vio and Brazil’s Monica Santos.

Hong Kong’s Yu Chui Yee secured gold in the women’s foil category A competition, after winning the final 15-10 against Ukraine’s Nataliia Morkvych.

Russia’s Alena Evdokimova and Hungary’s Eva Andrea Hajmasi completed the podium.

The World Cup will conclude tomorrow with the men’s sabre and women’s foil team events.
