Great Britain's David Smith reasserted his dominance with a clean sweep of victories at the season’s last Boccia International Sports Federation (BISFed) World Open in Portuguese city Póvoa de Varzim.

The 30-year-old was in a class of his own, romping to victory in the individual BC1 event, beating Russia's Mikhail Gutnik 4-3 in the final.

It was a repeat of last year's final that saw Smith, the world number one and reigning Paralympic, world and European champion, win by the larger margin of 4-0.

Earlier today, Smith won all of his pool games and conceded just six points in the process.

The Briton defeated European silver medallist Panagiotis Soulanis of Greece 8-0 and enjoyed equally convincing victories over Thailand's Natthawut Deemak, Japan's Hiromi Endo and Brazil's Andre Luiz Filho.

Smith also overcame South Korea's Roh Youngjin 12-2 and Brazil's Jose Carlos Chagas de Oliveira 8-0 to reach the last two.

It all comes after he suffered two keenly felt defeats at the BISFed World Open in Hong Kong in May, including one in the quarter-finals against eventual champion Witsanu Huadpradit of Thailand.

Capping a successful week for Britain in Póvoa de Varzim, Louis Saunders and Stephen McGuire met in the individual BC4 bronze-medal match, with the latter triumphing 7-5.
