The United States also qualified three teams to the main draw, all three pairs advancing by straight set victories.

Emily Day and Betsi Flint beat Brazil’s Andrea and Claudia Galindo, 24-22, 21-15 and Nicole Branagh and Brittany Howard triumphed over Austria's Dorina and Ronja Klinger 21-17, 21-8.

Finally, Americans Kelly Claes and Sarah Sponcil beat Serbia’s Kathryn Hogan and Milena Matić 21-12, 21-13.

Brazil's Rebecca Cavalcanti and Ana Patricia Silva secure their spot in the main draw as they beat another Serbian pair, Marija  Milošević and Marija Vojnović 21-13, 21-8 in straight sets.

The Brazilians are in form as they are fresh from consecutive gold medal matches in World Tour events having claimed victory in the three-star Qinzhou Open and second at the four-star tournament in Yangzhou.

"We arrived from China on Monday and we are still dealing with the time-difference and the sand, which is a little bit different than the one we played at in China," Cavalcanti said.

"It wasn’t our best game but we were very focused and aware that we are still adapting to the tournament, so it was a good start."

Two other Brazilian teams will be joining Cavalcanti and Silva in the women’s main draw.

Maria Clara Salgado and Elize Maia Secomandi and Taina Bigi and Victoria Lopes also secured their qualification spots with straight set victories.

Salgado and Secomandi defeated Austria’s Eva Freiberger and Valerie Teufl 21-12, 21-12 and Bigi and Lopes beat Canadian twins Megan and Nicole McNamara 21-15, 21-17.

China’s Meimei Lin and Lingdi Zhu and Norway’s Ingrid Lunde and Oda Ulveseth took the final two qualifying spots in the women’s draw.

Lin and Zhu won 21-16, 21-18 over Japan’s Chiyo Suzuki and Reika Murakami and the Norweigan pair triumphed over 24-22, 20-22, 15-8 in a local derby against Sweden’s Sofia Ogren and Tadva Yoken.

In the men’s qualifying, four US teams advanced to the men’s draw as the hosts dominated the first day.

Billy Kolinske and Miles Evans prevailed over compatriots, Eric Zaun and Avery Drost in three sets 18-21, 21-19, 16-14.

Reid Priddy and Jeremy Casebeer defeated Spain’s Antonio Burgal and Salvador Pastor, 21-14, 21-11 and Sean Rosenthal and Chase Budinger beat Canada's Aaron Nusbaum and Mike Plantinga 21-15, 19-21, 15-13.

The final American pair to progress was Tri Bourne and Trevor Crabb, who beat Greece’s Vasileios and Angelos Mandilaris 21-18, 21-17.

The other berths were claimed by France’s Romain Di Giantommaso and Jeremy Silvestre, who beat compatriots Quincy Aye and Arnaud Gauthier-Rat 22-20, 22-20.

China's Yang Li and Jiaxin Wu also advanced with 21-18, 21-14 victory over their comaptriots Zhuoxin Li and Chaowei Zhou

The final spot was taken by Poland’s Jakub Szalankiewicz and Maciej Rudol, who beat Canada’s William Hoey and Ivan Reka 21-16, 19-21, 15-11.
