The red and green cartoon sports figure was nveiled at a spectacular community-based street party celebrating youth, sport and diversity, the branding draws on ancient traditions linked to the first use of rubber balls in sport as early as 1600 BC. 

The curved figure looks like it's kicking a blue ball across the page.

The numbers 20 and 15, written in white, are spread across the image.

The logo is being called the visual face of the Games.

The theme of the sports event is "United We Play".

Ian Troop, the chief executive of Toronto 2015, said: "Our new logo is the result of rigorous research, development and testing.

"We are thrilled with the way it reflects our shared heritage, collaboration and commitment to the timeless passion and joy of sport."

Margarett Best, Ontario Minister of Health Promotion and Sport, added: "It will inspire our efforts to make these Games an unforgettable experience - for the athletes and their families, Ontario’s families and visitors to our Province."



Canada's Sports Minister Gary Lunn said: "Today’s launch of the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games’ look is an exciting milestone.

"It will be the face of the Games.

"Hosting international sport events like this brings significant benefits, not just to the region, but to the country as a whole."

The Toronto 2015 Pan American Games is the first major, international multi-sport games in Canada’s most populous region in 80 years.

Significantly larger than the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, the event will be staged throughout 17 municipalities from Oshawa to Toronto to Niagara Falls, where more than 50 sport venues will host 48 different sports and events.
