Iran has chosen two female athletes as its flagbearers for this year's Asian Para Games in Jakarta.

Sareh Javanmardi has been selected for the Opening Ceremony in the Indonesian capital while Samira Eram will do the honours at the Closing Ceremony.

The Iranian National Paralympic Committee has never selected two women as its flagbearers before.

Javanmardi is a history maker after becoming Iran's first female gold medallist at a Paralympic Games at Rio 2016.

The shooter won two titles in the Brazilian city in the P2 women's 10 metre air pistol and the P4 mixed 50m pistol SH1.

Her success continued at this month's World Shooting Para Sports Championships in Cheongju, South Korea, where she won three gold medals and a silver.

Eram, another shooter, also experienced success in Cheongju in the women's P2 10m air pistol team event, alongside Javanmardi and Khadijeh Rostami.

Indonesian capital Jakarta will host the Asian Para Games from October 6 and 13.

With 3,000 athletes from 43 countries taking part, the Games are the second largest Para-sport event outside of the Summer Paralympics.

The event will follow the Asian Games which Jakarta is co-hosting with Palembang.
