The deadline for entries has been extended, however, until next year.

So far, since the initiative was launched in September, 24 applications from nine regions of Russia have applied to take part.

Among the ideas selected is one from the Curling Federation of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

They plan to hold a festival of floor and yard curling.

Another project that will receive funding is  Knsk College of Technology and Agriculture in 2018.

They plan to create the "Alley of Athletes".

The Siberian State University of Physical Culture and Sports from Omsk plan to hold their Universiade-style "Student Games" on their campus next year. 

Kargopol, the administrative centre of Kargopolsky District in Arkhangelsk Oblast, will host winter sports event and hold special classes and lessons for youngsters about the history of the Universiade and Krasnoyarsk 2019. 

The criteria used for determining the winners was the social significance of the projects and how much they engage the local population. 

The winners of the contest will receive resource, information and other support for implementation from Krasnoyarsk 2019.

They will also receive diplomas. 

 In total, the competition received 24 applications from 9 regions of Russia.

"For us, it is important that everyone can make their own small, but very important contribution to the preparation and holding of a large-scale sports festival," Konstantin Gureev, deputy head of Krasnoyarsk 2019, said. 

"To this end, we are ready to support the initiatives of the inhabitants of the whole country."
