Japan's judo domination continued at the Summer Universaide here as their athletes claimed all four gold medals on offer.

The judo powerhouse won the opening gold medal of the last two nights of action and Mai Umekita continued the run, triumphing in the women's 48-kilogram division.

Umekita held her nerve when it mattered most as she defeated Brazil's Gabriela Shinob Chibana in a golden score period, with the scores level at the end of the regulation time.

South Korea's Jeong Bok-yeong and Kazakhstan's Otgontsetseg Galbadrakh completed the podium positions in the division.

The men's 60kg final saw Taikoh Fujisaka make light work of his French opponent Vincent Limare, with the Japanese athlete emerging as the clear winner.

Fujisaka took the lead in the contest with a waza-ari score, before making certain of his success with a match winning ippon.

Bronze medals were claimed by Russia's Albert Oguzov and Kazakhstan's Rustam Ibrayev.

Open divisions were also contested in the judo event, with South Korea’s Kim Ji-youn paying the price for errors in the women’s division.

She was given three shido penalties during the gold medal match against Akari Inoue, which resulted in the Japanese competitor being awarded the overall victory.

A 100 per cent record in today's competitions was maintained by the Japanese team, as Hyoga Ota won the men's open division.

He ended the challenge of Juhan Mettis by ippon in the final, but the Estonian was still able to celebrate his silver which got his country's medal tally up and running.

Russia's Musa Tumenov and Ruan Isquierdo Da Silva of Brazil secured bronze.

While Japan were imperious in the judo, hosts Chinese Taipei continued their golden run in roller sports.

Chen Ying-Chu sped to victory in the women's 500 metres sprint competition by crossing the finish line in 43.739sec.

She was followed across the line by Colombia's Maria Timms Ariza in 43.802, while there was a nine second gap to bronze medallist Yang Ho-Chen, also of Chinese Taipei.

The three nations have been the major forces in the roller skating competition at the Universiade, so it was no surprise to see a repeat podium in the men's event.

Chinese Taipei's men's squad again took the gold medal by finishing in 4:04.432, but they were pushed by the South Koreans and Colombians, who managed 4:04.447 and 4:04.512 respectively.

The hosts were denied a clean sweep of today's roller sport golds, when South Korea's Hong Seung-gi won the men's 500m title in 2:27.600.

In fact, Chinese Taipei missed the podium altogether as Colombia's Cesar Nunez Almanza and Jamie Uribe Mogollon rounded off the medal places in 2:27.622 and 2:27.697.

With individual fencing action concluding yesterday, team events got underway as the men's sabre and women's epee titles went on offer.

The latter proved the most enthralling of the two competitions, with the United States and Ukraine eventually ending locked at 44-all in the final, leaving the match to be decided on the final point.

Ukraine would win to claim a dramatic gold medal in the event.

Poland secured a 45-36 victory over Russia in the bronze medal contest to book their place on the podium.

A dominant performance in the men's sabre final saw South Korea seal a 45-30 win over Iran.

Bronze was secured by Italy, with their team seeing off Russia by a 45-32 scoreline.
