The team has been approved by the country's Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera.

Comprised of 20 boys and eight girls, members of the team will compete in athletics, rugby sevens, boxing, judo, swimming and tennis between July 19 and 23.

Promod Madubashana Perera, Navodya Sankalpaya, Sheshan Dilusha Kariyawasam, Kavinda Thathsarani, Sachini Devyanjali and Sanduni Chaviprabha Bandara will all compete in athletics while Dimuth Akalanka Peiris, Kyle Abeysinghe, Avanthi Dewmini Perera and Vinoli Nelinya Kaluarachchi have been selected for the swimming events.

Only two Sri Lankans, Kavinda Sanjaya Bandara and Madumala Eranga Priyadarshini, will enter the boxing ring.

Soorya Thushara and Hafsa Yamina wll represent their country in judo while Vibudha Indeepa Wijebandara and Anitha Seneviratne will compete in tennis.

Completing the team are the boys' rugby sevens squad, with Thariksha Dulanjala Piyatissa, Christian Fredrick, Gemunu Chetiya Kumarasinghe, Ishara Dimuth Liyanage, Jonathan Weerakone, Mohammed Shabir Iqbal, Nadeesha Chaminda Vithanage, Navindra Thanuj Rajaratnam, Ravin Peshal Fernando, Tharindu Anuruddha De Alwis, Tuan Daiyan Sabar and Vishwa Supeshka Ranaraj all being chosen. 

The names of the officials travelling alongside the team have not been released yet.

Sri Lanka won six medals at Samoa 2015, including four silvers and two bronzes.

This year's Games will be the largest international sporting event ever staged in The Bahamas and the biggest edition of the Games with up to 1,300 athletes aged between 14 and 18 set to participate.

The Queen Elizabeth Sports Complex in Nassau will be the main venue hub.

This includes the world-class 15,000-capacity Thomas A Robinson stadium.
