China celebrated double 500 metres gold in short track speed skating at the Asian Winter Games here today.

The women’s competition at the Makomanai Indoor Skating Rink saw the continued rise of China's Zang Yize.

A Lillehammer 2016 Winter Youth Olympic champion in the discipline, as well as a double Junior World Championship bronze medallist, Zang is seeking to establish herself on the senior scene.

The Chinese skater timed a late move to perfection to win the gold medal, ducking down the inside to overtake her rivals in a sprint finish, winning in a time of 43.911sec.

Japan's Ayuko Ito, who has enjoyed multiple World Cup podium finishes during her career, claimed the silver medal in 44.236.

South Korea's Choi Min-jeong won the event’s B-final to claim the bronze medal.

It followed her compatriot Shim Suk-hee and China's Fan Kexin being disqualified following a clash in the closing stages of the A-final.

The second Chinese gold medal was claimed by Wu Dajing after he produced an Asian record of 40.764 in the men's final.

It followed his silver medal in yesterday’s 1,500m event.

He was challenged right to the line by South Korea’s Seo Yi-Ro, leading to a slight touch between the pair.

Seo, who crossed the line in second, fell off balance and slid into the barriers after the finish of the race.

It added to his obvious frustration after narrowly missing out on securing victory.

The podium was completed by another South Korean skater, Park Se-Yeong clocking 41.182 to take the bronze medal.
