Austria’s Richard Leitgeb led an Austrian podium sweep in the men’s slalom event as Alpine skiing action here at the 2017 Winter Universiade came to an end today.

The 22-year-old posted the fastest times in both the first and second runs to win comfortably in 1min 55.16sec at the Shymbulak Ski Resort.

Bernhard Binderitsch took the silver medal in 1:56.44, while Tobias Kogler claimed bronze in 1:56.57.

Japan’s Hideyuki Narita missed out on a podium place by 0.03 seconds, while Latvia’s Kristaps Zvejnieks - the men’s Alpine combined gold medallist - was a further 0.16 seconds back.

Sweden’s Rickard Kaahre was in third place after the first run, but could only manage the 20th-best second run and ended up ninth overall.

Slovakia’s Matej Falat, the silver medallist in this event at the 2015 Winter Universiade, fell out of medal contention after failing to complete his first run.

Russia topped the overall Alpine skiing medal standings with two golds, one silver and two bronzes.

Italy’s two golds earned them second place, while Austria came third with one gold, two silvers and one bronze.
