An international seminar for sambo referees is set to take place on the eve of this year’s World Cup in Moscow.

A workshop is scheduled to be held on March 20 and will be followed by theoretical and practical classes on March 21 and 22.

The referees will be required to pass exams in the final part of the seminar, after which they will be admitted to officiate at the World Cup on March 24 and 25.

Each qualified referee will receive a certificate and the right to work in international sambo tournaments.

Official documents on the seminar are due to be published on the International Sambo Federation’s (FIAS) calendar, accessible here, in the near future.

Nearly 50 officials attended last year’s three-day seminar at the famous Sambo-70 school in Russia's capital.

The first two days were dedicated to studying theory and analysing complex situations, with an exam held on the last day.

The Sambo World Cup is also referred to as the A Kharlampiev Memorial World Cup in honour of Anatoly A. Kharlampiev - one of the founding fathers of sambo.

Russia won 19 of the 27 gold medals on offer at the 2016 edition.
