The Chinese team emerged as the overall winners of the event for the first time in 2012 and have dominated since, triumphing in the next three editions of the competition.

Their last two successes were achieved in Beijing and Shaoxing respectively, but China have opted to stage this year’s competition in the port city of Yangzhou, located in the Jiangsu Province.

Five of the world’s best teams will seek to end China’s recent dominance of this competition, with Olympic champions Russia set to provide a stern threat over the two days.

Teams from Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan and Ukraine are also set to compete in Yangzhou, which is hosting the event for the first time.

The highlight routine, thematic duet and free team routines will all take place on the opening day at the China Textile City Sports Center.

It will be followed by the mixed duet, solo exhibition and free combination routines will be held on Sunday (November 27), when competition draws to a conclusion.

The solo exhibition will not be judged.

As well as the five medal events, China will also perform a show on the second day, while an awards gala will take place to pay tribute to their athletes’ efforts throughout the duration of the year.

The overall winners of the World Trophy will earn $50,000 (£40,000/€47,000) in prize money, with second place claiming $30,000 (£24,000/€28,000).

Bronze medal winners will then take home $20,000 (£16,000/€18,800).
