Argentina’s defending champion Gustavo Fernandez leads a 36-strong entry list revealed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) for next month’s Parapan American Games here.

The event, which has ITF 2 Series status on the Wheelchair Tennis Tour, has attracted players from 13 countries playing across men’s and women’s singles and doubles events

Both winners of the singles competitions will gain a direct qualification to next year's Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. 

Fernandez, ranked sixth in the world, will be favoured to repeat his victory in the Guadalajara 2011 final against compatriot Agustin Ledesma .

With Ledesma not here this time around, opposition will be provided by Brazilians Daniel Albes Rodriguez and Carlos Santos, ranked 19th and 23rd in the world respectively.

Fernandez’s team-mate Ezequiel Casco is the fourth highest ranked entrant, while home pairing Philippe Bedard and Joel Dembe, whose participation was confirmed by the Canadian Paralympic Committee yesterday, are others to be present who are ranked in the world’s top 50, along with United States’ Jon Rydberg. 

Three of the four defending semi-finallsts are present on the women’s singles side, including America's Guadalajara silver medallist Emmy Kaiser.

She will be joined by Francisca Mardones of Chile, at 16 the highest ranked entry, and Angelica Bernal of Colombia, along with seven others in the world's top 50.

Qualification was based on the ITF wheelchair world ranking of June 22, with additional places added via Bipartite Commission Invitations
