Toronto 2015 have revealed Toronto Hydro will be the Official Electricity Distribution supplier of the Pan and Parapan American Games, with just over a month to go until competition begins.

As part of their role, Toronto Hydro has completed and implemented emergency response plans to reduce the risk of grid disturbances during the Games and to ensure a fast response should an outage occur.

The electricity company will help to support Toronto 2015’s street banner programme, which aims to brighten Ontario’s most populous city by putting up banners in support of the Games.

Around 4,500 banners are expected to be put up across the Greater Toronto Area in preparation for Pan Am Games, due to begin on July 10, with Toronto Hydro poles and streetlights due to be decorated.

“The Toronto 2015 Games are bringing outstanding sporting and cultural experiences to the city,” said Anthony Haines, Toronto Hydro's President and chief executive.

“Toronto Hydro is proud to do its part in supporting this fantastic event and powering the Games.

“We are thrilled to partner with Toronto 2015 in creating a welcoming community for athletes and visitors from throughout the Americas to our great city this summer.”

Toronto Hydro have also allowed the Toronto 2015 to utilise their facility at 5800 Yonge Street to house their uniform distribution and accreditation centre, which is due to serve thousands of volunteers and employees until the conclusion of the Parapan Am Games on August 15.

“These Games wouldn’t be possible without the support of Toronto 2015 partners,” said Saäd Rafi, chief executive of Toronto 2015.

“It’s inspiring to see so many organisations across Ontario getting behind the Games.

“Toronto Hydro and its employees have a long history of supporting events that are important to this community.

“We appreciate them stepping up to help make these Games the best Pan Am/Parapan Am Games ever.”

The Pan American Games Torch Relay, which is aiming to engage the public ahead of the Opening Ceremony on July 10, is currently taking place across Canada.
