The event, capital city of the Mexican state of Baja California Sur alongside the Sea of Cortez, will consist of 12 countries competing in a double round-robin format over 10 days before the medal rounds.

Both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, as well as the medal matches, will be held in the Arturo C. Nahl Stadium, re-opened last February following an extensive renovation and modernisation process.

It will be the second such World Cup event for the age group after an inaugural event in 2012 was held in Chihuahua, which is also in Mexico.

That event, which consisted of 15 teams from four continents, was won by Venezuela after they beat Cuba in the final.

Third place was taken by Chinese Taipei, while the event also marked a historic precedent for both Indonesia and Ukraine as it was the first World Cup tournament that either nation had competed in, in any age group.

Venezuela won the 2012 version, also held in Mexico, with a 10-2 victory in the final over Cuba


The awarding of the latest event follows a range of other hosting rights awarded by the WBSC.

This has included the 2014 Women's Baseball World Cup to Miyazaki in Japan, the 2016 Women's Softball World Championship to Surrey in British Columbia in Canada, and the 2017 men's Softball World Championships in Whitehorse in Yukon also in Canada.

World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) co-President, Riccardo Fraccari, emphasised his confidence ahead of these events.

In particular, he endorsed the credentials of the Mexican Baseball Federation (FEMEBE) which has now successfully bid for the opening two under-15 events. 

"FEMEBE continues to be a strong partner and activator for our sport in pivotal youth categories, like the under 15 World Cup," said Fraccari.

"I congratulate our colleagues on a successful bid and am fully confident La Paz will deliver an experience of a lifetime for these young athletes.

"The Sur Baja California authorities have ambitious plans for raising the profile of sport and connecting with youth in the region, as well as promoting La Paz's status as a commercial and cultural centre.

"It is a great honour that the sport of baseball is considered as one of the vehicles to drive this community development.

"The World Cup promises to be an excellent showpiece with a sustainable legacy for baseball and for the local community."
