The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) announced her appointment today at a roadshow for the Asian Games in Singapore.

National bowler Jazreel Tan was appointed the Singapore Goodwill Ambassador for the Games.

Singapore is one of six cities in Asia chosen to host the Games' roadshow, which aims to generate support for the event.

Singapore, which has competed in every Asian Games since they were first held in New Delhi in 1951, is expected to send a team of around 250 athletes to Incheon.

At the 2010 Games in Guangzhou they won a total of 17 medals, including four gold, to finish 16th overall.

Phua praised the South Korean organising team for their preparations for the Games so far, and added that Singaporean athletes can learn from their South Korean competitors.

"Well, the reality is that Team Korea is ready whether it is home ground or not," she said.

"As athletes, they have always been competitive and that is the kind of spirit and mentality that I really wish that team Singapore will try to emulate, because they are incredible role models, something that Singapore athletes should aspire to be."
