September 2 - Sochi 2014 curling schedules have been announcedThe World Curling Federation (WCF) and Sochi 2014 have released the schedules of play for the next year's Winter Olympics and Paralympics. 

The schedules for the events, which will be staged in the Ice Cube Curling Centre in Sochi, were released during the second annual World Curling Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The Olympic curling competition will see ten men's and ten women's teams do battle from February 10 to 21 next year, as the Canadian men and Swedish women will be looking to defend their titles from Vancouver 2010.

Joining hosts Russia and defending gold medallists Canada in the men's competition are current world champions Sweden along with China, Denmark, Great Britain, Norway and Switzerland, who have all qualified by virtue of their performances in the past two World Championships.

Great Britain will be represented by the curlers that compete for Scotland at World Championship level.

In the women's competition, will be hosts Russia, Vancouver 2010 winners Sweden, 2012 world champions Switzerland and current world champions Scotland will compete under the Great British flag.

They will be joined by Canada, Denmark, Korea and the United States who have also qualified due to their exploits at World Championship level over the last two years.

The final two places for both the men's and women's competitions are due to be decided at an Olympic qualifying event which takes place in Füssen, Germany, from December 10 to 15.

Eight men's teams will be competing for the final two Sochi 2014 spots; South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, Finland, the US, Germany, France and the Czech Republic.

Meanwhile, seven nations will lock horns in the women's qualification competition with Germany, Japan, China, Italy, Latvia, Norway and the Czech Republic set to battle it out.

Once in Sochi, group matches are due toake take place from February 10 to 17, followed by tie-breaker matches on February 18 if needed, before semi-finals day on February19.

February 20 will see the women's gold and bronze medal matches take place while the men's medals will be decided on February 21.

Ten mixed teams will compete in the Paralympic wheelchair curling competition which will be staged at the same venue from March 8 to 15, 2014.

As well as hosts Russia, Paralympic champions Canada will be set to defend their title won on home soil four years ago, and they will be joined by Vancouver 2010 silver and bronze medallists South Korea and Sweden, along with China, Great Britain, Finland, Norway, Slovakia and the US.

Following the preliminary group games from March 8 to 13, tie-breakers are scheduled for the 14 if the need arises before March 15 will see the semi-finals, bronze and gold medal matches taking place.
