International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) secretary general André Gueisbuhler personally inspected the facilities at El Pueblo Coliseum in the Colombian city both this morning and this afternoon.

He judged that the temperature in the competition hall was too high in line with FIG Technical Regulations and the draught from the air conditioning system would affect the competitors and their handling of the ribbon, meaning the staging of the competitions was "impossible".

"I am very disappointed with the situation at El Pueblo Coliseum and I deeply regret to take this decision, but under the present circumstances, we cannot run a competition on ribbon here," said Gueisbuhler following the decision to cancel the events.

Gueisbuhler will now hold talks with the International World Games Association (IWGA) and the Cali Local Organising Committee later today to discuss further proceedings with regards to the other gymnastics events that are scheduled to take place at the same venue over the course of the Games.
