The continental tournament, scheduled to take place at the Murrayfield Curling Rink on September 14-21, invites each European association to send a team of two male and two female curlers, and this year's event will see home skip Ewan MacDonald, third Eve Muirhead, second Euan Byers and lead Karen Barthelemy defending the gold they won in 2012 in Erzurum, Turkey.

"We are delighted that Edinburgh and Scotland will host the European Mixed Curling Championship this coming September," WCF President Kate Caithness said.

"For many European curlers, this event marks the beginning of what will be a very exciting season for the sport of curling as we look towards the [2014] Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia."

This will be the first European Mixed Curling Championship to be officially supported by the WCF after member associations decision to disband the European Curling Federation at meetings in Karlstad, Sweden in December last year.


It will also be the second time Scotland has hosted the event after the 2010 edition took place in Howwood.

"Murrayfield Curling Rink is honoured to be hosting the European Mixed Curling Championship 2013," Andy Morrison, chairman of the Organising Committee, said.

"We will be working hard over the coming months to ensure that this is a top class curling Championship.

"We look forward to welcoming all competitors and spectators to Edinburgh and to Scotland and hope that everyone involved will leave having enjoyed a great tournament."
